What We Do

Opening Retreat

The initial retreat provides an opportunity for prayer, reflection, and team-building at the beginning of the academic year. The retreat should be held off-site if at all possible, with all student members of the cohort and campus ministers/facilitators in attendance. Mentors should be encouraged to participate, but are not required to attend. If mentors cannot attend, a social hour or other gathering should be arranged within the first few weeks of the program for participants to meet mentors.

The retreat provides an overview for the year, grounding the program in Christian faith and spirituality. Main themes include:

How I Relate to God

  • Who am I?
  • Who is God for me and us?
  • Baptismal calling
  • Catholic identity

How I Relate to Others

  • Exploration of self and gifts
  • Christian love: Justice and Charity
  • Christian Vocation: Rooted in Baptism
  • Christian Vocation: Discernment
Sample retreat schedules are available for sites in their ESTEEM curriculum packet.
